FORTUNATE

Fortunate person means he must be sincere, serious to know about Krsna.

Our misfortune has begun by forgetting Krsna.

When we desire to enjoy this material world, forgetting service of Krsna, that is the beginning of our misfortune.

In order to become again fortunate, I have to become Krsna conscious. That is the way.

Unfortunate because we are, even we have got this opportunity of remembering Krsna, we are trying to avoid Him. We are bringing so many nonsense things: "Why not this? Why not that?

Krsna is offering the fortune. Sarva-dharman parityaja mam ekam saranam vraja. This is fortune. But I'll not take that. Krsna says, "Get up. Give up all other engagements. Simply take shelter of Me. I shall give you all protection." But I don't believe Krsna; therefore it is my misfortune.

Just like in English word, "Man is the architect of his own fortune." But as you are architect of your own fortune, you are architect of your own misfortune also. So if you don't accept Krsna's advice, then you must consider yourself unfortunate.

We should be cautious: "Why shall I become unfortunate? I must become fortunate."

To become fortunate, is not very difficult thing. All these Krsna consciousness people, they are fortunate. They have taken Krsna's advice as it is, without any change.

When the intelligence is used for material fortune, that is unfortunate. When intelligence is used for developing Krsna consciousness, that is fortune. So we can set up our own fortune or misfortune.

The fortune means that we must be serious after hearing about Krsna.

WE ALL NEED AN EDUCATION IN THE OBVIOUS - VIDEO

This is a video clip featuring Mark Levy, the author of Accidental Genius, a book on freewriting.

THE TOPMOST EMPATHY

Everyone should be unhappy to see others in distress and happy to see others happy.

Atmavat sarva-bhutesu: ONE SHOULD FEEL the happiness and distress of others as his own.

- Srila Prabhupada

ONE SHOULD FEEL

ONE SHOULD FEEL happy only by experiencing the happiness of the Supreme Lord.

ONE SHOULD FEEL grateful to the Supreme Personality of Godhead for having obtained such a nice human form of body, and one should properly utilize it.

Everyone should be unhappy to see others in distress and happy to see others happy. Atmavat sarva-bhutesu: ONE SHOULD FEEL the happiness and distress of others as his own.

With devotion ONE SHOULD FEEL, "God is great, and I am very small. Therefore my duty is to offer my prayers to the Lord." Only on this basis can one understand and render service to the Lord.

These are good signs in chanting the holy name of the Lord. In ecstasy, ONE SHOULD FEEL the entire world to be vacant without the presence of Govinda.

Offering all one's activities to the Lord, ONE SHOULD FEEL desire, anger, and pride only with regard to Him.

WHAT TO DO?

Sometimes people ask me what should they do.

They are not sure what service to do.

They have many options and ideas.

I recommend to choose a service where they can put their heart into.

To make their decision based on their heart, not based on their head.

PROBLEM

The problem is rarely/never the problem.

The response to the problem invariably ends up being the real problem.

"Vision without action is a daydream. Action with without vision is a nightmare."

"Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality."

"A leader's role is to raise people's aspirations for what they can become and to release their energies so they will try to get there."
- David Gergen

"The master of the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which; he simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

WHAT YOU NEED

I believe that your problem (if you have a problem) isn’t that you don’t have enough data.

You have too much data! You don’t need a longer book or more time with a talented consultant.

What you need is the certainty of knowing that you ought to do something (one thing); then you need the will to do it.

WHAT TO DO?

Listen to your conscience. Than act accordingly.

Develop a positive internal dialogue.

Affirm other people. Affirm their worth and potential.

HOW TO DO ANYTHING?

Just do it! (If it's worth doing.)

HELPING DEVOTEES SUCCEED

HELPING DEVOTEES SUCCEED

By Akrura dasa

I have experience in caring for devotees for the past ten years through coaching and guidance. My system is called Gita Coaching, as its purpose is to help devotees learn and apply the Bhagavad-gita As It Is in their lives. I consider Bhagavad-gita the ultimate holistic success guide. My coaching, based on it, is also holistic, i.e., it covers all the key areas of devotees’ lives, with the aim of making spiritual advancement.

I started Gita Coaching when I joined ISKCON London as an executive secretary, in September 2001. While coaching devotees I constantly learned many principles and tools from professionals through live courses and on the Internet. After two years of coaching and self-education, I took three training courses from the Newcastle College in England and completed them successfully. I learned a lot about how to help clients succeed, and I am helping Krsna’s devotees succeed, based on the principle of yukta-vairagya.

The purpose of Gita Coaching is to help devotees succeed in all areas of their lives. The Vedic aphorism sarve sukino bhavantu means “Let everyone become happy.” All devotees have much more potential that they currently use. Gita Coaching helps to discover and engage that potential in Krsna’s service, for the greatest benefit of the devotees.

This is like taking a journey. You become curious what Krsna has in store for a devotee that you are assisting. Krsna usually has both roses and thunderbolts for a devotee, and it is wonderful to see how these manifest. It is an honor to be with and to assist devotees while they are experiencing Krsna’s support and challenges, both internally and externally.

Usually the obstacles devotees face are internal: the way they see people and things, the way they see themselves, the habitual ways they think and feel and desire. We help them gain clarity about what they want and the determination to pursue worthy goals. Once they start overcoming internal obstacles they are more capable of dealing with any external obstacles.

Helping devotees succeed involves helping them see what happens to them and around them through the eyes of the scriptures. The problems we face cannot be solved on the same level of thinking we had when we created them. We need a fresh perspective, a new, uplifted consciousness.

We help devotees to build strong pillars for their success, like steady and serious chanting japa every day. We provide a Japa Excellence Tool, a simple one-sheet table to keep track of daily progress. What you measure tends to improve. Some devotees report to me about their japa for years, as it helps them improve their chanting. Another pillar is regular reading of scriptures or hearing classes, or both. Instead of listening to the mind, we can listen to something spiritually uplifting and enlivening. But in order to bring good results, this needs to become a daily habit of actively seeking new principles, stories, and tools that will help support our spiritual advancement and material sustenance.

Gita Coaching provides support, guidance and sometimes challenge. Support is given by sincerely seeking to understand a devotee, by taking a genuine interest in a devotee’s life and sincerely desiring their success in all areas. The devotee’s life becomes important to you. Guidance is provided by asking relevant questions and sometimes giving recommendations or directing devotees how they can learn what they need to know in order to move forward. We encourage devotees to seek their own solutions and draw their own conclusions about what they want to do with their lives. We encourage taking full responsibility for one’s thinking and action. Challenge is offered only when a devotee trusts that a coach has a devotee’s best interest at heart. Usually the challenge comes in the form of a question that helps discover the devotee’s internal obstacles to progress or highlights the goals that devotee wants to achieve but is procrastinating on.

In working with hundreds of devotees, I have seen that real effective change and positive progress start when a devotee stops blaming anyone, including Krsna, and takes full responsibility for his life. Success starts with clarity about what we want in life and what our main roles are (responsibilities and relationships) and then taking 108 percent responsibility for our behavior, our spiritual practice, our service and work, and especially our relationships. Taking responsibility is another great pillar for a devotee’s success, and I always look for an opportunity to encourage it.

As the Bhagavad-gita is holistic, so is Gita Coaching. It helps devotees become more effective in the areas of health, sadhana, service, relationships, etc. As all these areas influence each other, it is important to work on enhancing all of them, as far as possible. So we help devotees to look at their life as an indivisible whole and to see how various parts relate to and influence each other. For a peaceful and happy life, balance is an important factor, which is mentioned in the Sixth Chapter of the Bhagavad-gita.

In helping devotees succeed, the Gita Coaching approach does not create dependency. Rather, it strives to help devotees help themselves by becoming spiritually and mentally stronger and physically healthier. Success happens on the field, when you are not with your coach. Your coach will provide powerful questions, principles, strategies and tools, but if you want to make progress you need to practice every day. You need to pay the price of success every single day. Accumulation of these sincere, regular efforts attracts Krsna’s attention and brings strength and momentum.

The most exciting part for me in helping devotees succeed is discovering their worth and potential, and discovering with them new possibilities, advantages, options and solutions. The Gita Coaching process does not work on a devotee, but works for him and with him.

On a practical side, Gita Coaching is a weekly or a fortnightly focused conversation (face-to-face or on the phone), that helps you clarify what you want, make an inspiring plan, and take dynamic, intelligent action. It is focused on you and your needs, your goals, and your success. A coach will help you see and focus on what you can be rather than what you are.

We use this simple GITA Coaching Model as a framework for coaching:

Goals – Instructions – Tests – Action

Goals: We ask you to choose an important area of your life you want to work on and write down goals you want to achieve in that area.
Instructions: We ask you to choose one goal you would like to work on right now and find spiritual instructions and, if needed, professional knowledge that helps you achieve it.
Tests: We ask you to write down what internal and external tests or obstacles you have to pass to achieve it.
Action: We ask you to write down a weekly action plan to start moving towards achieving your goal.

We also ask for accountability. Sometimes devotees ask to send me reports and be accountable for their goals and action, because it helps them focus and discipline themselves when working on what they have chosen as important. For a spiritual coach, being an accountability partner is an important part of helping the devotees.

Here are some of the good results and benefits you can get from Gita Coaching:
- Better self-discipline and sadhana
- Better relationships
- Career ideas
- Spiritual support and guidance
- Time and life management and goal-setting skills
- Taking responsibility for your constant motivation
- Overcoming internal and external obstacles
- Tapping into the power of intuition and listening to your conscience
- A sense of being more strongly connected to Krsna
- Strong connection with timeless success principles or natural laws
- Powerful ideas for your spiritual and professional success, leadership and management service, and preaching

Helping devotees succeed is a process, not an event. I call it lifetime coaching for devotees (instead of “life coaching”). It is a process of constant improvement in key areas of your life. Once you start it, you will not want to stop, as it brings the satisfaction of knowing that Krsna is pleased when we make a conscious effort to constantly improve ourselves and then help others do the same.

HOW TO DEAL WITH PROFESSIONAL RESOURCES

Nowdays you can get tons of professional resources for free, either from the Net or from your friends or colleagues.

So sometimes we get overwhelmed with the amount of audio/video/text that we get and we feel uneasy or feel pressure that we have to hear/see/read it all.

My question is - why?

Why do you feel obliged to consume it all just because you have it on your PC?

These materials are meant for your use, you are not their servant.

Here is how I deal with it. Perhaps it is helpful to you.

First of all I am selective what i save on my PC. I think before I save. I save what would be great to save, not what would be good to save.

Once it is there, I do not feel obliged to take it in. I just keep it there in case I or my friends need it.

I use it whenever I want.

And often I let my intuition guide me what and when to use it.

So these are my two tips: save wisely and use it as you like.

"HELP ME"

Once I had a lunch with a young but quite respected ISKCON leader in a major European city.

He said to me soberly: "Please help me become a devotee people think I am."

His sincerity moved me.

I thought Krsna is teaching me through his mouth how to think myself and what to ask of others.

LIST OF REASONS

Make a complete list of ALL reasons why something you want to do cannot be done or you cannot do it.

Then for each reason ask yourself this question: Am I convinced that this thing (or person) can stop me?

If the answer is yes, write down an explanation why. Then ask yourself again: Am I convinced?

If the answer is no, write down an explanation why, and a plan of action.

Then take action!

MINIMIZE DISTRACTIONS

Click on the title to see a blog and a Free The Genie card.

ASSUMPTIONS

One of the greatest obstacles to our success and happiness are the assumptions we make.

The assumptions about what we can or cannot do and about what's possible.

HOW TO BE ALWAYS JOYFUL?

In the material concept of life, when one works for sense gratification, there is misery, but in the absolute world, when one is engaged in pure devotional service, there is no misery.

The devotee in Krsna consciousness has nothing for which to lament or desire.

Since God is full, a living entity who is engaged in God's service, in Krsna consciousness, becomes also full in himself.

He is just like a river cleansed of all dirty water.

Because a pure devotee has no thought other than Krsna, he is naturally always joyful.

He does not lament for any material loss or aspire for gain, because he is full in the service of the Lord.

He has no desire for material enjoyment, because he knows that every living entity is a fragmental part and parcel of the Supreme Lord and therefore eternally a servant.

He does not see, in the material world, someone as higher and someone as lower; higher and lower positions are ephemeral, and a devotee has nothing to do with ephemeral appearances or disappearances.

For him stone and gold are of equal value.

This is the brahma-bhuta stage [SB 4.30.20], and this stage is attained very easily by the pure devotee.

In that stage of existence, the idea of becoming one with the Supreme Brahman and annihilating one's individuality becomes hellish, the idea of attaining the heavenly kingdom becomes phantasmagoria, and the senses are like serpents' teeth that are broken.

As there is no fear of a serpent with broken teeth, there is no fear from the senses when they are automatically controlled.

The world is miserable for the materially infected person, but for a devotee the entire world is as good as Vaikuntha, or the spiritual sky.

The highest personality in this material universe is no more significant than an ant for a devotee.

Such a stage can be achieved by the mercy of Lord Caitanya, who preached pure devotional service in this age.

Bg 18.54 Purport

EVERYTHING IS GOOD

A devotee sees in this material world everything is good.

Visva purnam sukhaya.

People are complaining they are in distressed condition, but a devotee sees that there is no distressed condition, that it is all happy condition, because he lives with Krsna, he dovetails everything with Krsna, he dovetails himself also with Krsna.

Therefore for him there is no misery.

- Srila Prabhupada

IF GOD IS ALL GOOD, WHY DOES EVIL EXIST?

If God is all good, then why is there evil in the world?

For God there is no evil, just good.

Just as my chest is as important to me as my back, if there is pain in my back I take care of it.

I do not ignore it thinking that the front is more important.

Evil is compared to the back of God.

It is not different from His front, or goodness.

If everything is good from God's point of view, then how can there be evil?

It is just like the sun.

On the body of the sun there is no shadow.

We create shadow by turning our back to the sun.

Similarly, when we turn away from God there is evil.

Evil is the absence of good, just as darkness is the absence of sunlight.

If you keep yourself always in the light, where is the question of darkness?

God is all-good.

So if you keep yourself always in God consciousness, then there is no evil.

And why was the world created with evil men?

Why was the police department created?

Because there is a necessity.

Some living entities want to enjoy this material world, therefore God creates it.

He is just like a father who gives a separate room to his mischievous children to play in.

Otherwise, the naughty boys would always disturb Him.

This world is something like a prison.

Therefore, there is suffering here.

In the prison house you cannot expect comfort, because unless there is suffering, there is no lesson for the prisoners.

Evil is undoubtedly created by God, but this was necessary due to the human being's misuse of his free will.

God gives man good directions, but when man is disobedient, evil is naturally there to punish him.

Evil is not desired by God, yet it is created because it is necessary.

The government constructs prisons not because it wants to but because they are necessary.

The government prefers to construct universities so that people can attain an education and become highly enlightened.

But because some people misuse their independence and violate the state laws, prisons are necessary.

We suffer due to our own evil activities.

God does not desire to create evil, but man's evil activities oblige God to create an evil situation.

THE TRUTH

The truth can either help you or hurt you - depending on your attitude.

The truth can free you if your attitude is humble.

SIMPLE

The more recollected a man is, and the more simple of heart he becomes, the easier he understands sublime things, for he receives the light of knowledge from above.

The pure, simple, and steadfast spirit is not distracted by many labors, for he does them all for the honor of God.

And since he enjoys interior peace he seeks no selfish end in anything.

- Imitation Of Christ

CARING CLIMATE

On of the best ways to create a caring climate is to engage people collectively in an activity that benefits another human being or any other living being.

QUESTIONS FOR YOUR LIFE

by John Robson

By giving a thoughtful minute per day to your journal and questioning your life, you can record changes as you make them. See how in this article.

"The quality of one's life is directly related to the quality of questions one asks oneself." Tony Robbins

Why is this? How can we use questions to get more out of life?

Journaling is a process of thinking in different ways and capturing results on paper. One of the many powerful journaling tools is asking yourself SMART QUESTIONS.

When we make a statement, we primarily use our logical, rational, left brain. Statements affirm what is. Questions,on the other hand, invoke more of our intuitive, creative right brain. They challenge us to discover what might be. While statements are static, questions lead us into unexplored territory. They open doors to new possibilities!

Take a moment to do this simple exercise. Say to yourself, "I don't have enough time to get everything done." Experience how you feel after you make that statement.

Now say to yourself, "How can I give more time to what's important to me?" Again, tune in to your feelings. Don't you feel stronger and more open, powerful and energized by the question?

Now take it another step further and WRITE DOWN your answers to the above question. Write down at least 10 answers, if not 25.

And here's the really good news. Your question mobilizes the immense power of your subconscious mind. Your subconscious acts on whatever your conscious mind tells it. If you say you don't have enough time, your subconscious will ensure that you won't. If you ask a question, your subconscious will always answer it, drawing from unlimited resources and wisdom that are not directly available to your conscious mind.

If you want to clear problems in your life, remember to ask constructive, open-ended questions that cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. A great question to use often is, "What can I learn from this situation?" and write down your answers.

Many people use positive affirmations. Why not change the words around to form empowering questions that draw out creative helpful ideas and solutions? And replace your critical self talk with inspiring and productive questions!

Spend more time thinking about questions rather than answers. If you focus on a wrong answer, eventually you'll have to start over again. If you focus on a question, your mind is still working to create viable options for you.

Once you've asked a question, then listen and watch for the answer. Be alert, for the answers can be subtle and indirect. They can also come from anywhere at any time. The key is to be aware. Watch and listen, and be open to new possibilities. Writing down answers allows you to look at them with new eyes and form new perspectives.

"It is not the answer that enlightens, but the question." Decouvertes

So talk to yourself with lots of expansive, empowering questions. Capture your answers on paper so you can see, synthesize and integrate them. Open your own power to actively create with consciousness. Question your life!

=====

In one hour obtain clarity, balance and focus. Catch your blind spots, stay on track and improve your habits.

STOP and THINK and WRITE! One thoughtful minute per day can change your life.

THEY IMITATE

All the living entities, being Your parts and parcels, are naturally joyful, eternal and full of knowledge, but due to their own faults they imitate You by trying to become the supreme enjoyer.

Thus they disobey Your supremacy and become offenders.

And because of their offenses, Your material energy has taken charge of them.

Thus their transcendental qualities of joyfulness, bliss and wisdom have been covered by the clouds of the three material qualities.

This cosmic manifestation, made of the three material qualities, is just like a prison house for the conditioned souls.

The conditioned souls are struggling very hard to escape from material bondage, and according to their different conditions of life they have been given different types of engagement.

But since all engagements are based on knowledge supplied by You, the conditioned souls can execute pious activities only when You mercifully inspire them to do so.

Therefore, without taking shelter at Your lotus feet one cannot surpass the influence of material energy.

SCRUTINY

These two, the person of forethought and the person of presence of mind, have been declared by the Rishis to be the foremost of men in all treatises on morality and profit and in those dealing with emancipation.

One, however, that does everything after reflection and scrutiny, one that avails oneself of proper means for the accomplishment of one's objects, always succeeds in achieving much.

BIRDS

Just like when a bird flies in the sky, so he has to leave behind him everything, and he has to fly in the sky on his own strength.

There is no other help.

Why bird?

Take these airplanes, jet planes.

When we get on the sky, leaving this land, no more we can depend on our strength on the land.

If the plane is sufficiently strong, then we can fly; otherwise there is danger.

***

Just like a flock of birds -- although very intimately related, everyone of them has to fly in the sky by individual strength.

If one is less strong, the other cannot keep him in the sky.

That is the law of nature.

So long everyone of us is strong in Krishna Consciousness, there is no doubt, you can fly in the spiritual sky and meet together without failure.

Therefore, individual strength is most important.

And that individual strength is achieved in the association of devotees also.

***

We are thinking, "My family, my wife, my children, my society men, my nation will give me protection."

No.

Nobody can give you protection.

It is false hope.

Just like the birds, when they fly in the sky, everyone has to take his own care.

Nobody can help anyone.

One can help only in Krsna consciousness.

Not in the material way.

- Srila Prabhupada

YOU HAVE TO FLY

Many times, devotees who join the ISKCON society think, “Oh, I am now in a successful group of spiritualists,” and after some time they become a little spiritually lazy because they think that the group will take care of them.

But spiritual life and spiritual advancement is always something very individual.

You have to find your own way in spiritual life.

Prabhupada always gave the example of birds that fly together.

Have you seen those birds that fly in a V-formation?

It is certainly true, there is a strong leader and the other birds follow.

It is easier if you fly in the flock because you don’t get so much wind.

You get a little less wind because the others share the wind.

But if you stop flying, you will fall.

You have to fly on your own even if you fly in a group of birds.

The false promise of institutional religions is:

“You just join us, and everything is clear for you. You will automatically make advancement.”

Be careful with this illusion.

It is not what Srila Prabhupada said, not what the acaryas say, and certainly not what Krsna says.

He wants that we all individually surrender unto Him.

Our individual surrender will always look different from our neighbor’s, because we are different — it’s our life.

For this we need a little bit sraddha — faith, that Krsna is there and will accept us if we surrender our life unto Him and invite Him into our life.

"I FORGIVE YOU"

To me, "I forgive you" is a proud statement.

Who am I to forgive?

"I forgive you" sounds like "I am in control, and you are at my mercy."

But is it really so?

And also - forgive what?

If I really understand that whatever happens to me is something that I have deserved, than there is no need to get angry at the first place.

And there is no need to forgive.

WHAT GREAT MEN SAY ABOUT BHAGAVAD GITA

"When I read the Bhagavad-Gita and reflect about how God created this universe everything else seems so superfluous." ~ Albert Einstein

"The Bhagavad-Gita has a profound influence on the spirit of mankind by its devotion to God which is manifested by actions." ~ Dr. Albert Schweizer

"The Bhagavad-Gita is the most systematic statement of spiritual evolution of endowing value to mankind. It is one of the most clear and comprehensive summaries of perennial philosophy ever revealed; hence its enduring value is subject not only to India but to all of humanity." ~ Aldous Huxley

"The idea that man is like unto an inverted tree seems to have been current in bygone ages. The link with Vedic conceptions is provided by Plato in his Timaeus in which it states..." behold we are not an earthly but a heavenly plant." ~ Carl Jung

"In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous and cosmogonal philosophy of the Bhagavad-Gita, in comparison with which our modern world and its literature seems puny and trivial." ~ Henry David Thoreau

"The marvel of the Bhagavad-Gita is its truly beautiful revelation of life's wisdom which enables philosophy to blossom into religion." ~ Herman Hesse

"When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face, and I see not one ray of hope on the horizon, I turn to Bhagavad-Gita and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow. Those who meditate on the Gita will derive fresh joy and new meanings from it every day." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

"I owed a magnificent day to the Bhagavad-Gita. It was the first of books; it was as if an empire spoke to us, nothing small or unworthy, but large, serene, consistent, the voice of an old intelligence which in another age and climate had pondered and thus disposed of the same questions which exercise us." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

"The Bhagavad-Gita is an empire of thought and in its philosophical teachings Krishna has all the attributes of the full-fledged monotheistic deity and at the same time the attributes of the Upanisadic absolute." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
